I saw this question in the tropical discussion, but has not received any replies. I too am interested in flourite for a substrate because of the plants I expect to have. But, since I want a nice school of cories as well, I want sand. So, the question is does the Seachem Flourite (Black Sand) work with cories, or would I be better off going with the gravel type flourite and just placing it in areas where I will plant and leave the open spaces as sand for the cories?

I'd go for the second option. I originally wanted a black substrate for my cory tank (I am a bit emo :p) but after souring the net I found a lot of people saying that they thought the flourite sand was still too rough for the cory's barbels.
I went for playsand in the end; it's very pale, but my cories are happy and that makes me happy, even if it's not black!

Hi, I've just discovered Unipac aqua sand, it comes in black and seems to be fine sand. I'm now planning to use it with my corys. Thought it might be of interest to people on this thread. :)
