I see from the various photo that people use white sand.

Can someone tell me the water values of their tank like PH, Gh, etc.

I live in an area with very high ph, do cory breed in high ph. If not which advice can you give me.

I have been told that if I use sand does not affect the ph. If so which kind of sand to buy. Tank you

Any normal sand that doesn't have additives like coral and stuff. Ask in your local pet shop or you can get pool filter sand or play sand. Argos sells the play sand for nothing almost.

What is your Ph? Mine is 7.4 and my corys do breed in this.

Re: pH - Try to find some locally raised cories. They should be well adjusted to your local water.

Hi Welwyncorydoras
How have the cories settled in that were mine as they were laying regulary here esp the bronze? Can you get a ph kit that can lower the ph up or down? not ideal I know

Hi me again
I have still got loads that I have not used , If you fancy taking a drive back to sunny Harlow you are welcome to it as not use for it my end if this helps

Why the need of the PH kit? It's not only not needed but is very dangerous using in a tank.
The corys will breed early or later, they just need to take their time sometimes. If they are in a community tank, it will take a lot longer time until they feel safe.

Hi I have never used a ph kit , but noticed them on sale at lfs so that was why I put ( not ideal I know ). welwyncorydoras had 4 bronze and 4 peppered cories of me a couple of weeks ago and they were always breeding so this could be they have just not settled yet ? They live roughly 15 miles from me .

Why suggest something you've never used? Especially something that can kill someone's fish.
The corys will settle and breed. They could just be stressed from the move and new surroundings.

Yes, I haven't personally used it but Harlequins has been breeding corys for years and uses the Argos play sand in all her tanks. It's made for kids which makes it safe for fish too as it doesn't contain any dangerous chemicals  It is the cheapest option possible, just needs a lot, a lot of washing before putting in the tank. If you think it's washed, wash it again

@MrsM - Its £2.99 for a 15kg bag and my Corys love it. 2 bags did my 48"x15" tank just nicely. Its like anything - if it was sold as aquarium sand it would probably cost 4 times as much (I have similar issues when looking at bonsai related items!).

As for washing, I put around 1/3 of a bag in a bucket, washed it through about 6 times and then put in my tank. Settled within an hour or two.

Cheers

Hi Snazy
I do understand your point but surley it is something that the individual would have to look into and get advice as to see what there ph is and what they want it to be . If that is the case then the ph kit would be used only as and when , If it is used wrongley then yes it would kill the fish but surley there must be certain set ups that it has to be used otherwise then the lfs would not sell this product.
As for corys I also mentioned (crap spelling) some of there corys they have were mine and were regulary laying and also mentioned it could
just be the move so yes I am still learning but these perticular cories I know .
Sorry if I come over as a bit snarly but I would not do any thing to hurt any living fish
I value all advice that is given on this site and I know you have helped out a few times
