Hi,

Bought three of these from Swallow Aquatics East Harling today. They were listed as "Dwarf Cory Nannus", and cost £3.25 each, (3 for £9), but obviously I'm sure they probably aren't Corydoras Nanus.

Had a flick through these forums and the Identifying Corydorinae Catfish book, and I have a shortlist of the most likely species, but I'd like an expert identification of what they actually are.

I hope they are actually a small species, as I have them in a fairly small tank.

Thanks.

Not an expert either just trying to help!

Okay they are C. Hasbrosus I think (I believe that's the name they told me when i got mine). I have some in my tank and they seem to look like that too. I'm thinking they look a bit dark because of the way your camera took? Possibly?

Mine have a silver like body coloring with those black markings and that's what mine are.

(Don't criticize me if i'm wrong, this is what the petstore told me. And I know they are a pygmy of some kind. However I do agree with the person above who says they are C. pygmaeus too. Because they are labled as dwarf corys and they only get up to an inch possibly.)

Good Luck

Thanks for the help ;)

I may try and get clearer photos if it helps. Problem is they were taken under a torch as that tank hasn't got a light.

You are looking at either C. napoensis or C. bilineatus, both species are very similar in colour pattern and although they are a smallish Cory they are not a dwarf. The species C.nanus is a smaller similar species that comes from Suriname and is very rarely seen in the hobby. All three species belong to the so-called 'elegans' group of species.

Thanks. Can't tell the difference between the two species though, or which one I've got. Any tips of identifying between them? Is it even possible?
