Just a quick question: Would corydoras be more comfortable in solid sand bottomed tank? or half smooth stones half sand? I woulid think that jsut over half sand, with a small portion of pebbles just for something different for them.

due to the delicate nature of the barbels on corys, it is recommended that you use a sand substrate. I can highly recommend using playsand as it is pH neutral and non toxic and a hell of alot cheaper than sand you would be from an LFS.

Bare bottom tanks i personally dont agree with as they can harbour bacteria that can also affect the barbels, however i do know of people that keep their corys in bare bottom tanks. Some with and some without any problems.

Ah....i would never keep any fish in a bare bottom tank...thanks for sharing. i will probably just go all play sand when i get my cory tank. Ive got this giant bag of pure white play sand that i use for my hermit crabs that i have used in my five gallon hex tank and half in the ten gallon. It looks nice and i noticed that the cory in the ten gallon loves to turn up the sand with his "nose".
