I bought 2 corys about a month ago and added both to my 10 gallon, and one of them was kind pretty lethargic. I thought he was still adapting to his surroundings but he seems very inactive compared to the other. he seems to swim a bit but a few days ago I realized a red blotch on his forehead that looks like he banged it on something. He still seems very lethargic but has lived for a month. Is this red blotch possibly an infection of some sort, and should I worry about my betta and other cory in there with him catching it?

ok im bumping this up since 15 ppl looked at it and no one replyed to help me out..i put the cory in a hospital tank with some antibiotics..hope corys are ok with them, he seems to be but still has that bright red blotch on his head..

On my spotted cory there is red on the forehead which looks internal. Didn't notice it when I bought it but a few weeks later. It has now been 2 month and no problems. Some fish are just not as acitve. I have a WCMM that will not play with the others. It could be like people some are fat and lazy others are active.

Hi bittersweet :)

Is the red spot on your cory an open sore? Do you also see any fin rot? What kind of medicine are you treating it with?

If it is a bacterial infection (very common with corys) Kanacyn is the treatment I would recommend, if you can still get it. Otherwise, Maracyn AND Maracyn2 are good.

Bacterial infection is often contracted when water conditions are poor, so yes, if this could be the case, I would be concerned about your other fish too.

Be sure to remove the charcoal from your filter, if you use it, since this will remove the medication.

I got some stuff called anti internal bacteria which seemed to treat the pop eye on my siamese female really well, this was accompanied by a red patch on the side of her face. Might be worth a go the brand is called AQUARIUM TREATMENT.
