does anyone have a picture of a female cory full of eggs?

I'm asking as my bronze cory which i am pretty sure is a female seems to have a very full belly. Shes quiet and sitting on the bottom of the tank with no signs of illness, she has been feeding. she is the only bronze in the tank but she gets along with the peppered corys very well and is part of their 'gang' im sure from comparing her to the other i have atleast 3 males in the tank with her. will she breed with the peppered?

Hi sarah86 :)

Check these females out:

I suspect that they are both well conditioned and are holding eggs, but unless I give them tanks with the ideal condition for their individual species to spawn, I cannot know for sure.

There is no need to worry about her breeding with the C. paleatus (peppered cory.) It probably won't happen, but in the event it does, the eggs would probably be infertile, and/or you could simply destroy them.

A far better decision would be to add another one or more C. aeneus (either bronze or albino)to your tank. This would make her truly happy, whether or not she spawns. While all corys seem to get along, they seem to thrive best in the presence of their own species. :D

P.S. I use http://photobucket.com/ for my pictures. It works well.

Thanx inchworm, ive just upgraded my tank and i am planning on getting her 3 new mates. Ive managed to add some links with pics in my first post, i dont know whether you saw or not. if she is holding eggs what will happen if there isnt a male to spawn with? will she lay the eggs anyway or simply reabsorb them?

Hi sarah86 :)

I just saw your links. You must have added them while I was posting.

I'm happy to hear that you're planning to get some more of her species. When I saw your pics, I was thinking what nice small gravel you have for corys. Wait until you introduce them and watch how happy she will be to see them.

It's not necessary for a female cory to spawn. If you get all females by mistake, it will be no problem. They will just absorb them or spawn infertile eggs.

Are you hoping to raise a batch of them?

I wasnt going to deliberatly try to raise some but would try to keep them if they did lay some eggs. I am worried about her though, i have read about bloat but she doesnt have any other symptoms apart from sitting on the bottom of the tank and being a bit lethargic.

Hi sarah86 :)

Unless you have some particular reason to be concerned, I wouldn't worry too much about her being bloated. She looks fine and is probably just lonely for some companionship of her own species.
