Hello!
I've been keeping Cories for several years in a 15 gal tank, and recently when asking for advice about my setup, I've received comments saying that Cories are unhappy in tanks of this size and need at least 20gal to be at ease and need to be in shoals of at least 6, preferably 10. (this is specifically in French forums, as I live in a French-speaking country)
I definitely understand the shoaling phenomenon, though mine are in a group of 4 Aeneus (including 2 albinos) and I have 2 Schwartzi who have become shy since their other Schwartzi friends died. They hide together in a rock cave most of the time (actually since I added a Betta to the setup, they've started coming out again... strange). I was planning to move the Schwartzi to a 10 gal tank and get them one or two more friends, but after what I've been told about cories and small tanks, I'm not sure anymore.
My oldest Aeneus is 4 years old and definitely not stunted. He's also happy and active, swims around, etc, and some of the cories even spawned a few months back (none of the eggs hatched, but I still think it's a pretty good sign).
Am I doing something very wrong, or am I getting overzealous advice? Please let me know what you think!
