just wondering really about stocking levels in cory only or predominantly cory tanks..... see with a normal community set up you'd spread your number of fish around the tank, if you have a really bottom heavy tank can you use the same " per gallon guideline or do you work it out on the floor space or something???

I don't think it makes much difference. Admittedly it would be rather crowded on the subsrate level, but the inch/gallon rule or whatever you normally use to work out stocking levels is fine. However, I'm personally against the idea of not having fish in the middle and upper tank levels but it's up to you! Don't worry about tank pollution from all the corys though, it will be no different to normal in my opinion.

We have quite a lot of Corys in our tank, as long as you don't really overdo it so that there's barely enough room to move, and provide enough food, it should be alright.

My experience with Cories is that they can have a higher stocking level than many fish. They are not very dirty, and they love company. Of course a Cory only tank works best if the footprint is large. I love my cory only tanks and so do they. :) I have a 20 long with 5 Brochis splendens, 10 long fin albino peppers, 1 or 2 C. melanotaenia, and 10 or more sterbai. They have been like that for several months. I need to make some stocking changes, because they like different temps, but they are doing fine. My panda and friends tank is a 20 regular. It has probably 25 small 1.5 to 3+" Coreys in it. It is one of my most stable tanks. The tank could easily accomodate many more small Cories.

cool thanks for the info.

Okay make that 1.5 to 2+" coreys in the panda and friends tank. The peppers are still young adults and will get much bigger. I don't plan on keeping the pepper tank at that stocking level indefinately. Still, you get the point.

Thanks for that info. Have been thinkin of converting all my tanks to cory only. Sorry to bring back an old topic.
