Cory Picked Clean Overnight?

I am shocked -- I went over to my tank llooking for one of my 2 cories and saw what looked like his "ghost." I realized with horror it was just the clear shell of him left! He was very big and I've had him about 1 1/2 years or so. Other than a few community fish that have lived in the tank peacefully for years, the only change was the addition of 4 betta girls a few months ago. I've never seen them go near the other fish--they are very good girls who may nudge each other once in a great while. How could this have happened without me ever noticing? I have been really overwhelmed lately, but I always notice a sick fish. He's so big, he's hard to miss--I can't believe he died and was picked clean without me seeing anything. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that.
My Cory died and was the same though, other fish just see it as food, plus it loses all its colour.
