about 6 weeks ago i got a new tank and since then ive been setting the new tank up and transfering the fish ect. my corys where the last to be moved into the tank and they have been there about a week now. my old tank was left empty of fish but i left it running just incase anything went wrong.

i came home to day and flipped the light on in the old tank to find lots of tiny cory fry. i dont really know how to care for them so any tips would be appreciated! ive ordered some microworm from ebay.

how often should i change the water in the tank??

also... ive got loads of snails in that tank, if i use treatment to kill of some of the snails would this affect the health of the fry???

thanks

Hi x-sarah-x :)

What a great surprise!

Here's something to read to get you started. Please ask any questions you might have and be sure to let us know how they progress.

It would be best not to use any snail killing product because that is likely to poison the fry as well. Even if it doesn't the dead snails will pollute the water. It would be better to just pick out as many as you can.

What kind of corys are they! Can you post a picture?

thanks a lot for the article, ill have to keep on top of the water changes!

i know i wasnt expecting them at all! ive seen eggs on the tank before but the other fish always eat them (which kind of suited me as i have no more room for more fish!) but ill keep them until they are big enough and hopefully the lfs might be able to take them from me.

i have 2 peppered corys and 2 bronze ones so im not sure what hey will be just yet... ill try and get a photo up when they are a little bigger, my camera wont focus on them yet. i have about 25-30 at the moment. how many do you normal get???

Hi x-sarah-x :)

They are probably eating the microorganisms that live on the bottom of the tank. It's a good first food for them.

Check with the independent lfs in your area. Chain stores don't usually take them, but the independent ones are often happy to get a batch of home raised corys.

Peppered corys usually lay smaller batches, but a mature pair of C. aeneus will produce a lot of them. Here's what I got from a pair of wild caught C. aeneus (bronze)
