i was wondering my bronze wriglers are 1o days old now
should i put some snails in the fry tank iv seen some pics on the net with snails in with cory fry

thxs in advance :good:

I'm very new to raising cory fry but I don't see why snails would need to be added to theirs or any tank(apart from a puffer tank).

My bronze cory fry were in a 15G with a group of pandas until they were about 4 weeks old when I put them in a 30G with the older bronze, they did fine.

The pictures you saw were probably just tanks that had a snail infestation, so no you don't need to add snails :)

im new to raising cory fry myself.
i just wonderd if it was a trick for extra hygeine or something
i wont bother then thanks anyway :good:

Hi drewry :)

I like to keep a few red ramshorns in my fry tanks, but they aren't necessary. If you like them, the excess food you put in makes a fry tank a good place to raise snails too.

I am going to be posting a picture of the beautiful snail Coryologist sent along withe the C. venezuelanus. This is a good kind to keep, and can be found if you look online, but it's probably best to avoid common pond snails. They are just not worth the trouble, IMHO.

hi Inchworm :)

i like the red ramshorns :good: ill look on the net tonight to see were i can get some ov them

Frank also sent me some nice Red Ramshorn Snails. Just be prepared to have a lot of them as they reproduce quickly. He sent me 15 and now I bet I have 100 throughout my tanks.

hi barracuda :good:

i do have allot of friends and family with tanks
so i could easly pass some on to them if i end up with two many

Hi drewry :)

When you buy these snails, try to get a pure strain of red ramshorns. If the seller doesn't mention that, there's a good chance they may have some brown (common) ones in their line. The brown is dominant and eventually you will end up with all brown snails.

They do reproduce well, given lots of food. A year ago I had so many in my tanks that I was auctioning them off at the Aquarium Society meetings. Then, something went wrong with my tanks, (maybe a disease, but I think something with the water from the tap) and I lost every single one. It wasn't too long ago that I bought another batch to get them started again. :D
