I have had 4 peppered Corys for about a week who seem lively and healthy. However, i'm unsure as to how to know whether they're hungry or not? It's quite difficult to form an opinion as they tend to mill around the tank scavenging for food for the majority of the day. I have 10 Cardinal tetras which I feed twice a day (morning / just before bed) with small amounts of flakes (I'm very wary of over feeding and the problems as a result). Some of the flakes do fall to the ground and the Corys hoover them up whilst on their routine path around the tank. I also have some pellets for ground feeders which I drop in the tank from time to time. I have noticed that straight after they hit the ground the Corys won't be particularly interested, but the pellet is consumed at some stage as it's disappeared after a few hours or so.

I understand that fish are inevitably 'hungry all the time', but wondered whether there were any signs or indications I could rely on to ensure the Corys (and the Cardinals for that matter) are getting enough grub.

Many thanks,

Si.

well most corys do exactly what you say..so theyre active a good part of the day, burning energy. i feed mine once a day but when i do its frozen bloodworm shrimp pellets and algae wafers broken into quarters.

shrimp pellets are a pretty good staple, but make sure it has fish in the ingredients, shrimp cannot be a staple alone.

you just have to watch them...they wont eat until they explode, theyll eventualy quit eating. sit there for 5-10 minutes and ensure theyve been fed well.

edit

if you can get live blackworms your corys would love you.
