hi!i have a cory and 6 guppies in a small tank.artificial rocks and plants.i had another cory but it died about 6-8 months ago.these were given to me.i plan on getting a live tank soon minus the guppies.anyway,i let the tank go longer and get pretty dirty so i did a full tank cleaning(i know).i don't have a heater but it stays between 65-70.my cory(i think)laid eggs on the side of the tank.will they lay eggs without a male and they are just not fertile?any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi bubbles1 :)

Yes, a female cory can spawn without a male, but the eggs will be infertile. A big water change, like you just did, is often all it takes to encourage adult corys to spawn.

That said, let me tell you that corys are schooling fish and your female really needs to have a few companions of her own species to have any kind of normal cory life. When you get them and add them to the tank, watch how happy she is to see them. :D

Hi bubbles1 :)

I'm glad to hear about your plans. I hope you share your progress with us on the forum.

Have you decided what kind of corys you will get, or you still thinking about it?

Hi bubbles1 :)

Well, that's an excellent start!

But, she does need at least one companion as soon as possible. If you wanted a different color cory, the C. aeneus also comes in albino.

the problem i'm going to face is where to get healthy fish.i could go out today and buy one cory but our pet store stinks.and of course there is walmart, where all the fish are sick.i don't want to bring home a cory that will make her sick.i wanted to get up a new tank and then order all the fish at once from somewhere that specializes in fish.maybe i'll try to find a local private owner looking to sell one.

any suggestions on where to look for healthy fish?

I don't know where you live, bubbles1, but there are aquarium societies all over. Why not look for one in your area. At the meetings, members trade and sell fish they raised themselves. It's a lot of fun. If you put your country and city in your profile, I'll try to help you find one. :D
