Cory Eggs

How do you know if they are viable? One of my cories (either pandas or albinos) scattered eggs all over the tank yesterday morning. Some I can tell have been eaten, but others are still there. How do you know if they've been fertilized properly, and if they have been, when will they hatch?

Greetings. After 24 hours you should be able to determine the viability of your eggs. They should be uniform in color, which can range from flesh colored to dark gray. Any sign of a white speck inside indicates a non-fertilized egg. Non-viable eggs generally develop fungus rather quickly. Hatching rates are determined by specie, water temperature and chemistry. Generally, they should hatch in 4 to 5 days, with longer hatching times the cooler the water. My last spawn of C. weitzmani took 14 days to begin to hatch, which is extremely unusual. The water temp was in the mid-60's.

Oh great, this helps a lot!! I think most are duds, as I can see white specks in them. I'll leave them few more days just in case there are one or 2 that will hatch. Should I scrape them off or just leave them alone?

Well I'm still waiting on those eggs in the pics hatch. I have separated some out into a net that I'm keeping but on the second day some had clouded over. In the past when I have been unsure whether eggs were duds or not, i separted them from eachother so that nothing spread from dead to live ones. So you could try separate them if there is a variation in colour. It's day four now and the eggs are a beige colour, meaning they are just fine. A pure white colour is not a good sign. the more spawns you have, the more sure you become about viable eggs.

Day 4 eggs:

Dead excited about them hatching. probably tonight or tomorrow!!!
