hi my albino corys have just laid eggs in my tank on the filter :hyper: :hyper: now i was wondering how best to move them & would they be ok with just born molly fry. talk about breeding  lol
thanks trace

Hi trace1 :)

You must have some very healthy young corys there! :hey:

If you can move them to the other tank without exposing them to the air, it would be best. Try scooping the whole filter up by putting a pot under it and moving it that way.

Is your tank set up and ready for them? You will need nothing in it but water and an airstone. It need not be cycled. The eggs will take 3-4 days to hatch, so I would leave them there with an airstone under them for a couple of days and then gently brush them off to finish maturing at the bottom of the tank. If your water circulation is good enough they will be successful and you can return the filter to your main tank before they hatch and get sucked up by it.

Alternately, you might try gently rolling them off the filter and dropping them into the new tank. If you try to move them at around 8 hours after they are spawned, they might stick to the glass for you. Just be gentle because they are fragile and damage easily.

I don't think it would be a good idea to raise them with your mollie fry. Livebearer fry grow much faster than egg layer fry and have big appetites. If they don't outgrow the corys and try to eat them, they will surely eat most of the food. I tried to save some guppy fry this way and they actually attacked the cory fry that were 3 weeks older than they were at the time. :/

yeah must have heathly fish but also got greedy fish cos all the eggs have gone already :grr: :byebye: .
i will eventually manage to get some cory eggs to hatch. by the time i can move the molly fry i can put the corys in the tank like i said earlier.
bloody greedy egg eating fishes lol.
it looks like i have a female & 2 males as well as saw the 1 laying eggs messing with both the other 2 in the tank :D

oh wow, i just found 1 surviving cory egg :hyper: :hyper: . so it just gone in another tank to see if i can at least hatch 1 :D

Hi trace1

How disappointed you must be! But your corys will spawn again for you. If not soon, after a period of rest and good food.

If you can get a microworm culture, go ahead and get them going now. As live food, your mollie fry will enjoy having this nutritious meal too. :D

yeah i was disappointed as well as surprised that they ate them that quick this time. will get the microworm culture going. will feed them up again now & hopefully by the time they ready for swawning again the molly fry will be in the main tank. or is this another excuse for another small fry tank :hyper:

well they've done it AGAIN :hyper: , but once again the eggs will probally be eaten. think i will just leave this lot & in a couple of weeks when the molly fry can be moved i will try them in the other tank then take the corys out when they've spawned. this is deffinatly i learning experience for me till i can try in another tank. you never know i may be lucky & even get some of these eggs to hatch

oh this is great i'm so glad i watch my fish a lot, i've just watched my cory put some of the eggs on the heater & being as i got a spare heater i'm going to move it to the fry tank so i can try to hatch some of this batch :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

looking at them i'd say the 2 males are just short of 2" & the female is about 2 1/2 ". they have spawned 3 times now & i've never been able to save any eggs so hoping this time i might be able to save the 6 i took out of the tank :hyper: :hyper:

Rooting for you Trace! That would be great!

Mine have spawned so many times this autumn I've lost count, yet I haven't been able to save any. Usually they eat them during the act. Last batch were on a plant which I stuck in a breeder net right over the airstone, never hatched. Not sure they were fertilised, though the males seem to work hard enough...

Best of luck with yours!

Good luck trace1

Isn't it exciting to watch them spawn? I never seem to get tired of seeing it.

Once you have success with them, you will probably be able to get your bronze to spawn. Then, if your sterbai are mature, you might be able to get them to lay eggs too. Some of the corys are more difficult than others, but I think you can work with all of yours, if you want to. :D

hi inchworm :D
hoping when the other are mature they will also spawn. think i just convinced hubby on another tank as well so that will make 4 lol. hoping to pick up the 4 ft 240 litre tank tomorrow so will give me more room to play with them all. will keep you informed on what happens :D
