i found 2 Neon Tetras dead today so i think some thing is wrong like some kind of disease, i was thinking of trying some melafix medicine i have herd its good but i dont like useing it unless i have too cuz i have found a few fish dead after i use it last time ..........would that melafix medicine be the right stuff to use now? can u surgest some thing better (if this is some kind of sickness thats attacking the fish its realy the first time its happened to me so im not to shore what i should be doing .......now i think back the neon Tetras i got a week and half ago maby they were carrying some thing

well the problem is you don't know the reason of the deaths so I wouldn't just go adding meds in your tank with no idea what the problem is. MelaFix doesn't hurt cories IME

hmmmmmmm problem is they show no reason for there death so a good all round medicine is my best hope i think...................oh the pic of that eel typ fish thing that shows up when u message what typ of fish is that i have one them but the pet store did not no what it was

The eel type fish in my sig is a Neosilurus rendahli Eel tailed catfish from Australia (Could you take a picture of yours perhaps??)

I have read that neons are VERY touchy at times and can die at the drop of a hat they also could of been unwell. I would advise perhaps waiting a little while perhaps a day or two if there are more signs of disease perhaps some MelaFix however it's not the best idea to medicate a tank not knowing the cause and you cannot use salt as you have cories

I agree with QuotheRaven, its a bad idea to medicate a tank without knowing what is wrong. Neon tetras can die with no warning because they are sometimes weak due to mass breeding. Keep an eye on the tank and the water stats. Did these Neons show any signs of sickness? Are there any other neons or other fish in the tank showing any signs?

intresting thing is the fish just seem to up and die they dont look sick at all strang ..........oh and i did see that Neosilurus rendahli Eel tailed catfish in anuther shop it was called a yellow fin eel tail catfish i thort the name seemed wrong i had 2 but one died along time ago it got realy fat and died from over eating oh and i live in west austraila i will try to get a pic of the one i have but how do i post it on here?

I think if you can identify the disease then treat it the way it should be treated, but just recently I treated my tank which had columnaris, with more aeration, lower temp, a little bit a melafix, and some salt! And I have Kuhli Loaches and Cories in there, they are all doing fine! But i would recommend identifying the disease.

Your cories would rather go with some salt for a short period of time, than dieing. I had salt in my tank for 1 month, i put below the recommended dose though, but all my fish went back to being healthy as can be!

thats all good but if the fish show no signs of sickness befor they die how can u identify the disease but i guess some how i will be all right

Oh and Fizban the yellow fin and Rendahls are both Aussie however they are two different fish although in the same genus. Oh and Captain I believe I mistook Columnaris for Fungus just recently....however MelaFix didn't work that well and it ended up wiping out 10 fish....I didn't use salt I have Yoyo's and a Rendahls catfish and A Bn Plec not sure if it would hurt them.

And Fizban who says it has to be a disease that killed them??

true it could be some thing other then a disease that killed them but i dont have clue what it would be other then that oh and the yellow fin and Rendahls do they look the same cuz the one i have looks in every way like that pic maby it was miss labeled in the shop ..................MelaFix dose seem to end fishs of there sickness works so well it ended up wiping the sickness and the fish out together  i lost about 5 last time i used it the only reason i may use it again is cuz its ment to work realy welll (probly cuz it realy strong) i rember now the yellow fin that died long ago was realy fat but it died from the MelaFix along with a big flying fox 2 gouramis and a silver shark .....i went back to chat to place that sold me the stuff after that cuz i did every thing right that it said to do and the guy said it must have been some thing other then the MelaFix cuz u can pour the stuff right on top of the fish with out a problem he said ....i never returned there again

How can Melafix hurt a fish?not shore but it has with mine ...Melafix is strong stuff i think some fish are more at risk then others some thing like that any way .....oh nice cat by the way i have one that looks the same only older it was my aunts but she went over to japan to live the cats probly around 19 year old so its old for a cat

melafix is actually kind of weak. I am currently treating fry with it and pimafix both. I can't see how it could have been the medicine.
I would seriously keep looking for another reason for the problem.
I even contacted the makers and asked before I started. I am using both at full dose, and it isn't hurting them. I have been doing it for 10 days.
My cory did fine with it too.
Good Luck
Amanda
