Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Eggs are used to make some vaccines but apparently the covid19 vaccine being administered is not made in eggs.

Thousands of people had the jab yesterday and 2 people had a reaction. Both people carry adrenaline pens because of a history of severe allergy.
That is the good thing about all of this. About 20,000 people got vaccinated and only 2 so far, have had a major issue, and both carry an epi-pen. This might suggest the average person is quite safe and unlikely to have any adverse reactions to the vaccination.

Even a 1% chance of having a bad reaction would make it safe, at least as far as I am concerned. 99 people are fine and 1 might react badly. There's a pretty good chance I will be in the 99 group.

If the vaccine is causing 1 in a 1000 or 1 into 10,000 to react badly, those odds of being fine are even better.

It is encouraging news. Knowing me, I will be the 1 that might react badly ?

The BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine is very different from typical vaccines where they grow the virus in eggs, it is based on mRNA technology. But mRNA is a bit scary, it will grow the coronavirus's protein spikes in your body which you immune system locate and kill.

But I will take it today if offered.

Then why take it????

Well, today our prime minister spoke to the nation. The Netherlands will have a total lock down starting at midnight for 5 weeks. Oh, more time to spend at home... As if I haven't seen it enough...

I'm spending far to much time on this thread lol

They just had that on the news here in Australia. It's quite concerning because they just started releasing the vaccine and a new strain pops up and starts spreading more rapidly.

We still have a virus floating around here causing people to cough. I went for a walk late last night (or early this morning) and 4 teenage boys were walking along the path. One was coughing his guts up and I crossed the road to avoid them, but the wind was blowing and I was down wind from them so I disinfected when I got home from my walk.

It freaks me out that people are out in public when they have a virus and don't seem to care about spreading it. It also annoys the hell out of me because I informed the state and federal governments about the local cough more than 5 months ago and they refuse to do anything about it.

I don't think these guys get the whole thing about the lockdown...

Dumb as posts and selfish tboot. Scum in human form.

My parents are in their 80s and dads in hospital over Xmas. Mams on her own with family nearby, I’m 260 miles away from em all in the SE and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere other than the supermarket and a walk in the park over Xmas this year. It’ll be a shame if those fleeing London aren’t the first to die.

I’ll put my two cents in on this one....

I’ve been out working during this entire thing. I’m not a ‘frontline’ worker, that’s a big term here in Canada. But I am considered an “essential” worker.

so since March, not only have I been doing my regular hours, I’ve also spent many weeks putting in overtime to make up for lost time for the others who left due to health concerns, in the construction trades.

Now after no vacation time, Ontario is staring down another province wide lockdown, just as I am about to get my scheduled holiday time off.

Part of me is happy for the time off, the other half of me is pissed that everything is getting shutdown again.

I hate this crap, and I’m tired of hearing about it. I’m especially frustrated at the fact that Canadians are supposed to all have been vaccinated by September and officials still want you to wear a mask after that.

AND I’m allowed to be pissed...

Vaccines take time to work. You get a vaccination and over the next couple of weeks, the body's immune system starts to develop a response to whatever you got vaccinated for. If you need a booster shot, then that usually happens a couple of weeks after the first shot. During this time, you are still susceptible to catching the virus. So even though you might be vaccinated in September, you will still be able to catch the virus for about a month after that, and if you do catch the virus, you can transmit it to people who haven't been vaccinated.

There is also an issue of the vaccine not producing an immune response in everyone. So you and your family get vaccinated. A month later you are presumed to be protected. However, the vaccine doesn't work on one of your family members for whatever reason. That person still has no immunity to the virus and you or other people can spread it to them (if you have it). Even if you are vaccinated for it, if someone coughs on your clothing and someone else handles those clothes, they could catch the virus from your clothing.

It also takes time to vaccinate everyone. You might get done in September, but it could be 12 months or more before the entire population is done. Again, if people aren't careful during this time, the virus can easily be spread to people that haven't been vaccinated. If babies are born during this time, they could also catch it.

--------------------
Whilst everyone is hopeful the vaccines will work, they might not work. And it will probably take a couple of years to vaccinate the world's population regardless of if it works, so don't expect this to end soon. My guess is we have another 6-12 months (possibly longer), before we see any major changes.

To make matters worse, this may not be the last viral pandemic outbreak. There have been 6 new viruses (potential pandemics) that have appeared in the last 20 years. Overcrowding, overpopulation, encroachment into wild areas, malnutrition, poor sanitation and numerous other factors all contribute to new viruses appearing. We might all be vaccinated against covid19 and get back on with our lives only to have another virus pop up in a couple of years time.

The fact is the planet is overpopulated with humans and whenever you have large populations of any creature, there is a risk of disease outbreaks. This happens on farms, in fish tanks, aviaries, and in human towns/ cities. Combine that with global warming, fires destroying the bush, people hunting and eating wild animals, and the pH in the oceans about to drop, I don't have a lot of hope left for the human race or any other species on the planet. The Earth could soon become another Mars and the human race disappears forever.
