Hi,

How do I sex my cories? Does it have something to do with size? I have one that is a giant compared to the others and they were bought at the same time about 8 months ago ish.

Thanks

Vic.

Hi Vicky99 :)

It sounds like you have a pair of corys there. The female will usually be considerably longer and wider than the male when mature.

Here's a picture of a pair of my C. pandas:

Do yours look like them?

Yup that's how they look!!

Guess I have a pair then!

They chase each other around a lot - not aggressively - they almost look like they are playing - is this a good thing?

Cories do play alot with each other. But normally when they chase each other, that is a sign that they want to start spawning. Keep an eye out for eggs on the glass, plants and places like the filter and thermometer.

:D

Hi Vicky99 :)

If your pandas are mature, there's a possibility they are spawning already but that they are eating their eggs.

Watch them carefully and if you see the males get in front of the female, and the female eventually sort of push one over and tickle it's tummy with her barbels, (the T Position) they are actually spawning. She will finish with a few eggs between her ventral fins. Watch where she puts her eggs and see what happens.

Being small fish, they will only lay a few eggs, but once they start they might give you some every few days. I put this kind of thermometer in the tank for them to lay their eggs on, since it makes it much easier to get them out and into another tank to raise the fry.
