Ok,, quick question on my Newly acquired Cories

:/ I tested my water twice in the past week and no noticable change in params, and all are normal. If u wish i can do full tests tonight.

I bought 3. One of which is dead already... :byebye: of un known causes. No external symptoms. Im guessing starvation. Cause when i tryed to feed i never seemed to see him take anything (Flake, BS and BW). But my other two are ok and eating now.

The two i have remainng are in-active alot of the time. When i see the bigger one, he is normally just resting among my plants closer to the surface, and the other hides behind the vallis and bogwood. It sounds asthough lack of oxygen to me, but i have increased input considerably using both surface agitation and bubbles. (My eel doesnt seem to be breathing fast :dunno: )

Help!

Have they changed colour, sounds like they were already poorly when you bought them, can you issolate them, as it sounds like it could be a bacteria problem, what was the ph of the store to your tank, and how long did you climatise them for.

I acclimatised them like i acclimatise normally. Around 30mins, ading water as i go. Until the bag is 50 shop water 50 mine. Then i place the bag on a lean and they can leave themselves. The lfs is literally down the road, a two minute walk, so pH is a little different but nothin major.

hi
certainly sounds like your cory may have been sick/stressed before you got him. we've often had fish bought from a nearby lfs die within a day or 2 of getting them for no apparent reason, i suppose the trauma of being shipped to lfs, stuck in a small tank for a while, chased & caught with a net, bunged in a plastic bag & the in yet another tank is just too much for some of them. sorry i cant be more help.

on the feeding side have you tried catfish & algae tablets with your corys? can buy them at lfs & they are specifically made for bottom feeders like your corys & ours LOVE them. we tend to put a tablet in after lights out as this gives them a chance to find & eat it before the rest of the greedy monsters in our tank can steal them. you may not have seen your cory feeding as they are mainly nocturnal although you will see them pottering around during the day. our corys also have been known to do disappearing acts where we dont see them out the front of the tank for a week or 2 but when i check theyre always there resting in the thick plants in their favourite corner at the back of the tank. we've had our 2 peppered corys for nearly 3 years now.
good luck with your other corys & give catfish tabs a go & they also love dried tubifex cubes :D

Thanks millym, sounds like there disapearing act is nothing out of the ordinary then.
I am still a little concerned but a tank clean and water change is on the cards for tommorrow, and ill deffinately look into the catfish tabs! I make sure frozen and my flake food does reach the bottum for them, but will buy some made especially for them!

Any more ideas as too what is ailing my cories???

What type of corydoras do you have, and what temperture is your water?
My peppered corydoras do best in low temperatures (between 22 & 24C), in the summer when the water gets warmer (till about 30C) they're a lot less active ... perhaps your water is simply too warm for them? They really do need cooler water, often corydoras die in the summer because of this =/

Yesterday it was 26.5C Maybe ill turn it down a notch tommorrow and see hoe that helps, thanks erised!
