Ive got albino cories in my tank with black tahitian moon sand and ive noticed the little buggers must be eating the sand as their bellies are all black internally and the rest of them is the albino pinkish color

I often see them shoot the sand out of their gills when there sifting through the sand for food but is it okay that they are actually eating some sand as well?

Thanks

I would not worry, i doubt they will be eating the sand.

ok.... theyre bellies have been very black and FULL of sand for about a week now that ive noticed it.

So they must be eating it...

i presume its sand as there is nothing else black in the tank expect the sand that they are constently sifting through their mouths and somtimes out the gills...

and because they are Albinos it is very noticable and it doesnt look good or right at all

That funny because mine do the same thing. The sand I use is white. I see it coming out of the gills like yours. Never thought they were eating it though.

It is quite entertaining to watch them shoot it out thare gills when theyre sifting around, but it was also very shocking to notice there bellies all black like the sand. It is definitly internal as well.

Ive only had these albinos for about 2 weeks now and I just dont want them harming themselves by eating the sand but I guess people keep cories with sand all the time with no issues, it just must be the white albinos with black sand that makes it apparant...

When the cories "shoot' the sand out of their gills. they are sifting through the sand. kinda like a giraffe cat dies. it is pretty cool to see!!!
