Hey again guys, sorry I'm not on as much... I don't have much time anymore. Anyways, if I have bettas and cories together, will I need airation of some sort?
Yes, you will need filtration and aeration for the corys. While they do occasionally shoot up to the surface for gulps of air, they do not have labyrinths like bettas, and cannot exist solely by breathing surface air.
If your tank is not overcrowded, you can get a nice balance between having enough water movement to accomplish this well, and having so much that the betta becomes uncomfortable.
Both bettas and corys are susceptible to bacterial infections, so you will be wanting to frequently clean the tank and change a good amount of water. This will serve to keep the bad bacteria down and to add some additional oxygen content to the water as well.
Bettas and corys together make a great combination, and I'm sure you will enjoy watching them as much as I do!
Thor, Red VT like them from the start. He shares a tank with 5 Cory's and does not mind that they share in the food.
Rudy, A Turqoise Halfmoon would not mind the Cory's but would hog all the food to himself, flaring at the Cory's if they went near the food. Even the sinking tablets. The Betta was replaced in the tank by a friendlier Opaque Delta.
My VT, Max seemed to get along with them fine for about an hour. Than he suddenly went face to face with one a bit him... I thought the Cory he bit was doing better, but today I found in on his side, so he is in an isolation tank with an air stone. Now I am helplessly wait for Clipper to die
Jack a CT was with a Pleco, after he lost a few scales and nearly died, my friend took out the Pleco. Jack is doing fine now.
