About 3 weeks ago I noticed some eggs - no more than 5 - on a particular leaf of one of my Swords... the leaf has a 'kink' in the top that provides a 'bowl' shape... this is where the eggs first appeared... I kept an eye on them: some went white and fluffy... the others stayed dark and I could see 'something' wriggling inside... I left them where they were and over the next couple of days they dropped off/got eaten/hatched... any fry must have been eaten as I can see none in the tank...

...since then - approx. once a week (might tie in with my water changes) - eggs have appeared on the 'exact' same spot on the 'exact' same Sword leaf... again, no more than 5... and again they disappeared after a few days... ther are no other eggs in the tank from what I can see...

...I'm not particularly interested in breeding... just curious as to why the eggs only appear in this 'exact' same spot every time?... The Corys I have are the only fish that could have laid them...

...any ideas?...

Our bronze cory female normally lays her eggs in the same place. She normally cleans the same spot on the glass on the front of the tank and lays them there. Even when I remove them and transfer them to another tank, she'll lay more on the same spot. ;) I'm not sure why, but at least I know where to look when they start breeding.

Hi bogwood :)

Your corys are probably laying more eggs than that, maybe on the glass too, but perhaps they are being eaten before you find them. If these are your trilineatus, it's a shame you don't try to raise some. I'm sure the members would love to follow your progress.

One of the things that corys take into consideration when placing their eggs is that they be in the flow of water from the filter. This helps keep them from getting fungus on them. Perhaps this is why they keep going to the same spot. :D

This particular 'favoured' leaf is under the heater... and gets continually 'buffered' by the flow from my filter outlet... sounds like you are right Inchworm... this leaf has optimum 'heat' and 'flow'...
