Just a tale...of a big ol fishy----one of my corey panaleatus (pepper, in case I spelled it wrong) decided she'd try something different and shot up my siphon tube while I was cleaning the tank. Smart aleck. I stared at her like "what the HECK are you doing up THERE in midair?! No wait, that's the tube! She's in the siphon intake tube!" (Gee DUH ) I'm just not used to seeing one that far out of the tank okay? ) Getting her out again was something else.
No she wasn't stuck...in fact she slid down the tube quite well with a little dipping of the tube in water and some gentile movement, not even shaking....however, she got to the bottom of the tube and refused to leave it! I haven't had much occasion to physically touch my coreys but she seemed stuck half in and half out of the tube all of a sudden and she's not that big, she's the smallest one of 4 females. This puzzled me. I lifted the tube end a little above the water, gently took hold of her hanging back half, mainly very lightly on her tail and tried a very light little tug to see if I could budge her. Not a chance. It's like she was cemented inside the tube! Then I realised she had deliberately stuck her fins out sideways and was determined to stay in the tube. Silly fishy! So I put the tube back down in the water and waited for her Majesty to come out when she was good and ready. After about 15 seconds she suddenly decided that that was enough fun and left lickety split. I was surprised how hard and armoured she felt when I touched her--I mean they look like tanks but she felt like one!
And by the way, how the HECK did I get two corey mommas over 4 inches long? The one I have measured up close to the glass and dang it if she isn't a full 4 1/2 inches! They come in two sizes or what?
That is one biiiig fish. Do they keep growing as they age? Is that it? Just wondering. Thanks for listening about my silly ol corey.
