I know this has been asked 100 times before, but I want some coralline algae . I do NOT have any on my live rocks, so I need to introduce it somehow. My question is can I buy the seeds somewhere?
But doesn't coralline algae have to be introduced somehow? I mean it can't just appear out of the blue. I'm just wondering if I can buy seeds somewhere to introduce it into my aquarium.
It will pop up in time, but it require a few months. If you just go about the normal process of stocking your tank and little bits are transferred with livestock.
Patience is the key .
yeah even with what appears to be totally bare liverock it will still grow in given time. You could get hold of some liverock with a good covering on and try scraping it off into a powered and putting this into the tank. Apparently it helps speeds the process up a bit.
Dont be tempted to use things like "purple up" which claim to make it grow faster. It is true that they do work but they are basically magnesium and calcium additives and if you arent careful about measuring the exact levels in your tank they will do more harm than good.
Dont expect it to happen overnight. It took about 8 months for my bare liverock to get a halfway decent coating. Once it gets going though it does start spreading more quickly. Just make sure your water quality is high and it will come in given time.
Yup, time and good water husbndry will make Coraline grow for you. Of especial note are normal-high calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, and 0 phosphates. Miss any one of those 4 and you won't have much...
And whatever happens dont get a blumin sea urchin. My tank was lovely and purple with corralline growing all over my LR and then I made the mistake of getting an urchin and the the little git ate near enough all mine up leaving my LR white and bare
