Got a coral blue Gourami about 10 days ago. He's not eating well (only started eating a few days ago), and swims almost vertical, and spends most of the time above the filter. my other fish are all fine, eat loads and seem happy as. I have never had a problem with other fish and the tank was properly cycled when started. All my nitrogen nasties are near enough 0 to not even bother looking at.
Whats wrong with him?????

Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates all 0 or undetectable. pH 8.2. When I ot him (Geoffrey) he was ok in the LPS tank, but was very shy when I moved him into my tank. Then, after 3 days started swimming vertically. His eyes look weird. Not sticking out but still look strange, and his scales are starting to fall off. Really worried.

Sorry for the late reply did a water change, went to work, got back and found all my fish looking very strange. Did and emergency change. Probably going to do one tomorrow.

Any help????

:dunno: Poor fish! Even though I don't know what the heck a Gourami is, it seems like it's kinda old... Just a guess. -_-

 I thought the ph sounded high, too high for a gourami I think, don't know how to get it down either, don't know if you can. Hope you find a way, I feel soory for you!!!

(I cant keep Gouramis, they hate me, and I hate them coz they never survive!)

You can reduce, with chemical means like pHdown, or natural means, like bogwood, peat, and the such. But if your tapwater has the same pH levels as the tank (8.2) that would cause the pH to fluctuate everytime you do a water change. And BTW, how big is the tank?

P.T.

The ph is too high that is what is the matter it is best not to use chemicals. Why dont you pm Inchworm she is real good with Gourami's she could probally help you out more with the ph for the them. I think it is 7.0 for them.

Thanks for all your help

I think he is just very stressed by the new environment, as non of the other fish are showing signs of illness, and my gourami appears to be feeling much better

Unfortunately The Coral has gone to the great yonder. :rip: Oh and apparently taken 5 other fish with it (All of whom seemed perfectly healthy) Still no indication of the mystery disease, but the others have been fine for 2 weeks now, so here's hoping.

Thank you all for you help. :byebye:
