Hi, I've just brought a tank, and I know that copper has been used in it, if I reseal over all the silicone will the copper still be ablt to get out? I don't think so but a yes/no would put my mind to rest.

Also, coppe can't leach into gravel can it?

thanks

ive no experince in this area but are you plannign to completly remove the silicon or jsut cover it up? if you cover it up i think over time you may have the same problem as the copper can leech into and out of silicon whats stoping it from leeching throught hte second layer? unless i supose it was 100% coverage traping it in so water doesnt touch it...basically if able replace the old with new

bump, just wondering why can't I just go over the top of the seals?
because whats stopping it go through the second layer...basically defeating the object of removing the copper from the tank. its just better i wouldnt risk it if i set up a nano ... which i will!! just waiting for mum to sign a dotted line :shifty:  we can dream

I think your best bet will be to remove all the silicon and rebuild the tank. That way you'll be sure there is no copper left and it will look much tidier. You will end up using less silicon too :good:

You don't really need clamps with a nano tank. If you put the first side onto the bottom and have it resting against somewhere straight for support then put the second side on and stick masking tape across them it should be ok. Have a pile of books or something to support the glass. Masking tape should be fine though, it's all I use for small tanks :good:

Yeah I made a 3ft long using this method.

Just make sure you have stuff to prop up the glass ready before you start and make sure it is going to be heavy enough to not move while the silicone sets.

Also... be aware that silicone STINKS to high heaven and should only be used in a well ventilated space, preferably outside :good:

lol OK, so can you give me a rough 'guide', like which sheets of glass should I stick together (lol) first and should I take it all apart before redoing it?

thanks
