Well one of my tanks has been having high temperatures recently during the summer season. So I was going to buy a chiller. But there prices are ridiculous. So I was shopping last weekend and I came across a clip on 6 inch fan. I was lucky that it was on sale for $6.99. So when I got home I made a small stand next to the tank so I can clip the fan onto the stand. The fan cools the tank from above. But due to the fan the water evaporates at high rates, so I have to replace the evaporated water every couple of days. This fan has save me hundreds of dollars, from the option of a chiller. Heres a link to show the fan I bought.

for the summer, my temperatures remain normal, i just change the lighting schedule. i turn off my heater and i keep the light on at night and turn in off during the day.

If your heater is working correctly, it will switch itself off.

Well my heaters never goes on during the summer because it would only turn on if my tank is too cold. But I keep the lighting schedule the same. To make lighting schedule easy on me I use automatic timers. Plus on the bright side automatic timers for lights saves the shock fishes may have to go through when they do have a constant schedule of light. But I might shorten my light schedule because algae has started growing on my rocks.

I have a shorter highlight photoperiod during the summer and also only run the UV Steriliser for a couple of hours at nighttime as external UVs tend to warm the water by up to 3 degrees.

My external heater is only turned on after water changes to bring the temp back up to 25.

There are various methods people use to cool there tanks. Depending on your tank size there are different methods that people use. For very big tanks like 180 US gallons and higher most people tend to use chillers.
