hi all

when convicts breed does the male pick a cave and then try to lead the female to the cave by flaring out all this fins because thats what my male keeps doing at the moment but the female is a lil riped up and hides alot

i would move her but in a my other tanks she would prob end up killin the fish in the tanks so i dont no what tio do with her

if anyone can give me any advice that would be great

thanx

What size tank are convicts in? Any other residents? Could you put in a divider until the pair seems more compatable?

hi

there in a 20 uk gallon on there own

i wont be able to get a divider for them

i may be able to put the female in a small 5 gallon but i no that to small so i really dont no what to do

maybe you can just treat her in the small tank for a few days, until she is strong enough to hold against the male?

Are these two fish an established pair, or just a male and a female randomly chosen at the store?

what i do if this happens with my pairs (my males are usually larger).
i make few caves she can fit in but he cant, when she's ready she'll join him in a larger cave... feeding live food will get her in breeding condition!

ok thanx

my male is also larger than my female so i might try that out

These were one the first fish that i kept years ago, they are nasty just by nature!!
Infact thats just got me thinking i remember one of them broke the heater in half!!
The ones i had the female had a orange belly. Do your best to seperate them, give them good food then try to put them back togetther and see what happens.
Has they female got places to hide?

hi

ive moved her for now and she has been out for 3 days now

and ive been giving her a gd feeding of frozen blood worm

how long should it be before i put her back in?? she seems stronger to me already

also ive added alot more hiding places in there tank

thanx

WHen you are ready to re-introduce her remove the male aswell and let him float in a bag while you re-arrange the decor in the tank. This way when you put both back in at the same time its like a new territory to them, instead of a female invading your males space. You may be unlucky enough to not have a pair at all and your male will continue to attack the female.

as soon as she looks okay to do so? cant say if we cant see her...
minimal fin damage, a week.
as said above best to mix it up just before puttin her back in
to be honest if it was just a lil fin damage i'd of left her in,
males can be a lil too eager just before pairin up!!!
females also if quite a bit larger than the male...

caves for her will help alot... how do know its a pair?

well i guess its a pair because i bought 3 of them wen they wer to small to tell there sex

then after a while i work out it was 1male and 2females then the male went of with one of the females and they kept swimmin round side by side then they killed the other female

so my guess is that they are a pair
