convicts + firemouth

i have a male convict and female convict with eggs in a 20 gallon tank...

so far the male killed the other male, and the surviving fry from another pair of cons...

but ... the male was only aggressive towards the other males..

theres a firemouth about the same size as him in there... and he lets the firemouth go near the babies, and doesnt do anything... the firemouth doesnt try to eat the babies... but i just think its weird...

and the male doesnt attack the other female in the tank... only the female scares her away...

weird behavior if you ask me
