Hey guys!!As you remember I had 2 convicts and one died(god bless his soul) so now i have one con all alone in a 20 gallon.I have asked around and it seems there is nothing i can put with him.He seems to be doing fine but I just thought he may be lonely.I cant find his exact kind again.I see many that look like him but are not the exactly the same.Is there anything at all i can put with him??Or should i just leave him alone since he seems fine anyway and it is only a 20 gallon???? :/ :/ :/

i would say yes. My convict was killing all of my other cichlids so he is now in a 10 gallon hex until i could afford another big tank. he has been in there almost 5 months and he seems extremely happy and healthy. a 20 should be fine for one for a while, they dont get very big.

In a 20g, I would just leave him as he is. If you put anything else in with him that would stay small enough for that tank he'd probably kill it.

try a female convicts thats larger or get a group of like 5 tiger barbs....full size tiger barbs....

So you guys think he will be ok???he must be pretty bored all by himself :/
I have to say I wouldn't try adding anything to the tank as far as show fish. Most likely he'll kill anything put in there with the tank being so small.

You could try adding a female and let them pair up.

Not sure how you feel about adding guppies or zebra danios, as they will all get eaten in time but some might last for months. Other than that idea, he'll not allow anything in there, imo.

He won't be all that lonely I guess. Cichlids are loners anyways and what I have found since I only keep lone cichlids that are too aggro for tankmates, is they have a lot more personality if you spend time with them. I had a Midas that loved to play with a ping pong ball. I put it in and it floated around on top and he would spend sometimes hours a day crashing into it and moving it around. I had to stop the because he was hittting the glass too hard so I cut a slit in it and put a few pieces of gravel in it so it sank, and he would spend tons of time pushing it all over. He would also "ambush" the ball and hide behind a bush and fly out at it and bite it. He was a nutso but he sure knew how to entertain himself.

   thats sooo cute!!!I guess ill just leave him alone.Spoiled brat hes refusing to eat anything except frozen brine shrimp or blood worms :X

LOL, sounds like he has you right where he wants you.

What all have you tried feeding him that he won't eat?

How often do you feed him?

Try making him go without food for a whole day and then try introducing new foods, and if that doesn't work, make him go 2 days etc. Once he goes a few days without eating he should accept any foods.

I usually feed twice a day,all my fish are such pigs they always want food!

I tried chichlid pellets(2 kinds),and flakes and I did go one day without then tried a new kind of pellet,he ate one and thats it.He seems very picky.I remember the guy I got him from said that he wouldnt eat the pellets either but i assumed that was because he was with a huge oscar and was probably afraid to eat.Who knows :/

I cannot seem to find a fish that looks exactly like him.Is there like hundreds of different types of cons or what??? :dunno:

No there's only 1 type of con with the same body shape. Do you have a way to post a pic and show me?

Nice dark colors, angel lover. Beautiful fish!

Yep, that's definately a con. :)

What other pics of convicts have you seen? Are you talking about albinos or something? There are some that are blueish but it's the same species.

Hey angel lover!! :)

Ever notice how many of the same fish you and I keep? :shifty:

Once again, we're in the exact same boat. I bought a couple of second hand tanks from this kid last weekend for dirt cheap...he told me he had one little red bellied piranha in one tank and a bunch of guppies he'd been breeding as feeders in the other. When I got to his place to pick up the tanks, I found out there was also a full grown male convict in with the rbp! I left them together for a few days, but it was a nasty situation and now the rbp is very happy in his own tank and I have a lonely convict in a 30 gallon. :dunno:

Well I havent seen any pics but when I was looking at the aquarium store I noticed alot that looked like him but not exactly the same.

i can put a pleco in with him right???? :/

I wouldn't add a pleco to a 20g tho.

But yes, in a tank large enough a pleco is sometimes ok with cichlids. :)
