o.k. My convicts had fry the other day, I found em at about 4 am. At first my pair were getting along fine, they were squabbling with my other pair but hey, guess that's to be expected. Now for some reason one of my Convicts that had babies is chasing off the other, not sure which is male or female yet, a little early for the telltale head bump on the male. From everything I've always read, the pair is supposed to stay together after fry hatch and both look after them. Anybody else had a case of one chasing the other away like they do to other fish?

the female will be smaller and have an orange belly while the male will not. when they first lay eggs the female may chase off the male from the eggs. they also may take turns guarding over the eggs. the male will still stay close by guarding the female and her nest though. i have one pair that the female will not let the male anywhere near the eggs until they hatch and another pair which take turns guarding the eggs. depends on the personality of the fish.

Hey there....
How big is your tank?....Two pairs of cons. will be very hard to house together and not fight...The pair that just had babies are in protect mode and will attack anything that gets close...especially other cons...I'm sure if you had a large enough tank it would be ok...but thats a fair sized tank...Are your rams in the same tank...?....they probably wouldnt be able to defend themselves against breeding cons...HIH
