Hi there all,

I have a 200 litre Jewel tank which i have been using as like a back up tank to my large tank, but now all my fish are living happly in the one tank i am thinking about converting this tank to a marine set up. The tank is 3 1/2 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot so it small, but quite a nice size. I have got the Jewel filter running in it as well as an Ehiem 2218 external filter running as well. I have 300 watt heater aswell as 2 air stones in the tank.
How easy would it be to convert this to marine, what extra thing would i need to buy, can i buy the salted water and if so where from as fish shops in my area are not that great, how much live rock could i have with the tank and how many fish could i put in there? I have very young children who love the Finding Nemo film and one lfs has a tank set up with all the fish from the film in it, would those fish be ok to be kept in this tank?

Hi there all,

I like the juwel tanks, which one is it?

but now all my fish are living happly in the one tank i am thinking about converting this tank to a marine set up. The tank is 3 1/2 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot so it small, but quite a nice size.

Indeed, a great size for your first marine tank

I have got the Jewel filter running in it as well as an Ehiem 2218 external filter running as well.

You won't need either of these, although you can if you want keep the internal box and put your heater and phosphate remover in there

I have 300 watt heater aswell as 2 air stones in the tank.

Heater is great, air stones are a no, no, just think they look naf in a marine tank

How easy would it be to convert this to marine,

Easy peasy

what extra thing would i need to buy,

How long is a piece of string  but seriously: Live rock, skimmer, lighting for marine, If your tank has t5s then you could just change the tubes for now and have lower light corals, powerheads, test kits, phosphate remover

can i buy the salted water and if so where from as fish shops in my area are not that great,

Many sell salted but it is probably better to make your own

how much live rock

about 22 kilos - we would all buy from a reefer breaking down a tank - usually about £5 a kilo

could i have with the tank and how many fish could i put in there?

I'm thinking you have something like the rio 180 but slightly bigger - you can't really say for sure exactly how many fish as it depends on habit, size etc. but the normal/rough rule is one inch to four gallons

I have very young children who love the Finding Nemo film

Me too

and one lfs has a tank set up with all the fish from the film in it, would those fish be ok to be kept in this tank?

No, i'm afraid not, its not big enough, but you could have a pair of clowns and there are many other fish that both you and the children will adore

:hi: to the salty side
