My girlfriend's new aquarium came with a Bio-Wheel filter but we find the waterflow to be quite big for a 12 gallon tank. We only put in two fish (guppies) so far and they seem to be strugling pretty much everywhere in the tank.

There is no switch or dial to adjust water flow like my Aquaclear filter so I'm wondering if it can done at all?

there really any way to control it its suppose to over time go slwer and be better...

it's the eclipse 12 tank so yeah, it's the eclipse hood and bio-wheel

My 10 galllon eclipse didn't have a flow adjuster, but I could adjust the direction of the water flowing out. It looked like a little slide (the only way I can explain it...sorry) and I could pivot that in just about any direction (it would spin, I guess you would say). You could try pointing the output at the glass right next to it instead of straight ahead. That might cause the water to slow down a bit. I would have tried it with mine, but I haven't gotten it up and running again.

We can adjust the direction of the output but it doesn't really reduce water movement and some water will bounce out of the tank if it hits the glass directly...

I guess we'll have to live it then

Hmm, that's too bad....It was what I was hoping to do to mine to get the flow a little slower! My eclipse was given to me for free, so I'm not exactly sure what comes with it or what you can purchase on the side. Is there a way to possibly get a new pump? Perhaps with a lower gallon per hour rating. Just nothing too low that would compromise your water quality.

The guppys could also be weak. Guppys have been inbred too much and you may have ended up with 2 week ones.

You could also try adding something over the intake to cut the amount of water it can take in.

I know that with the Penguin filters you move the intake up or down to adjust the flow. Can you move the intake on this filter?

The guppies were fine in my tank and would once in a while swim against the current of the outflow for some fun :p

My tank has lots of plants and hiding spots though and the current is much weaker in my tank as it is bigger (20 gallon as opposed to 12) and I set my filter outflow to about 50 gph (maximum being around 150).

My water is very clear plants grow quite well. My fish are healthy and none show any sign of weakness, except one who seems to be growing a kind of fungus since this morning...

All that to say the guppies were doing great in my tank.

My girlfriend's tank is pretty much wide open for now. We'll get some green cabomba to fill up one side of the tank this weekend but you can see the few plants that are in there right now drifting with the current all over the tank.

I'll try to see if the pump can be changed but I doubt it...

I must say though that we are very please with this system. The filter being fitted inside the cover of the tank is awesome as nothing is hanging from behind. The heater packaged witht he tank is awesome too.
