As per the title I was looking at these fans as they are small enough to fit into the side of my hood and was wondering if I could use the same or a similar method to the cold cathode setup.

I notice that they are 3 pin and therefore have red, black and yellow wires wheras the cold cathode just had red and black!

Any help gratefully accepted.

Connecting them up wouldnt be a problem, just disregard the yellow wire, it is used for telling the computer how fast the fan is spinning.

If noise is an issue, I would recommend either connecting them up to a fan controller (or variable resistor) or dropping down to about 9v otherwise they can get really noisy.

Well I bought 2 of them. only cost a fiver.

Will look at your thread before they come.

I liked these because they are only 40mm and therefore I can fit them into the side of the plastic Fluval hood I have quite easily.

Many Thanks and will let you know how I get on.

In reality 40mm fans are very small, I think youll be suprised how small they really are when they arrive.

I went to Maplins today to take a look, and they are about the same as I expected (yes. small. lol)

I've got to work out how to fit them in as I have the original Fluval hood on top of mine which already has loads of mods on it including upgraded lights, cold cathodes etc and with the side of the hood (where I want to put the fans) being slightly curved it's gonna mean cutting some kid of housing to fit them into.
