I'ved searched and searched this forum for the answer i'm after with no luck.....

Would 1 beable to fit in a 10 gallon.

Other wise as i kind of like them i could do a custom 2ft, 24x18x18 which is 32 gallons.

They turned up on the fish lists at work and getting rid of my crabs so free's a tank!

All measurementts in UK gallons!!

Cheers, great info on there and even stars Slug for the congo picture!!

think i might have to invest in 1 of them, i like there feeding routine!!

would i be better off going smaller or bigger??

there was 2" and 5" availible.

The bigger the fish, the tougher the fish so go for the bigger one.
Remember, don't keep him with a Chacachaca!

Do you know what colour it will be? There are 5 colour morphs (sand, marble, black, red & brown) although congos are very good at changing colour to suit their habitat.

Good luck!

Oki dokey, thats another wallet bashing then!!

No chance, we can't even get hold of Chaca chaca's again yet.

I have no clue!! all it said on the list was common name, scientific (makes a change!) size and price!!

Is the feeding schedule accurate on there?? going by that as i would get a 5" fish i only needto feed once a week

btw Phillip would you be interested in replacing Slug??

Once you are sure he's eating, then once a week is fine because Congo puffers do absolutely nothing, nil, nada, zip between feeds and don't burn up the calories.

It is vitally important to see him feed though as congos are hard to get to feed to start with and very hard to get off live foods. In the wild they're almost 100% piscavores but Slug would eat live shrimp and occasionaly a mussel.
Remember that Congos are the only puffer that will not eat snails. ever.

We thought about replacing Slug, but we no longer have room for him. His tank is now occupied by Dwarf Puffers & BBGs.
Perhaps when Cookie's tank is empty we will consider Slug2 as a new occupant.

How's the tank coming along?

Heh another that doesn't like to eat easily then.

thanks for the info, will have to think it over properly now....i was trying to cut down on tanks

the tank is still only pipe work at the moment quite literally.

i haven't had a reply from my choosen tank builders in a while now so on tuesday i'll be giving them a bell now i have enough dosh to stick a deposit down!! then it should be about 2-3 weeks after that.

say another 1-2 to get it running then i'll be ready for him!.

ah ha maybe a quote would of been appropiate to link your comment. there's always going to be an exception, bloody nature can't make up it's mind!!

sir said it in his 2nd post.

I know congos that eat snails.

that was not random random is postind something like:
flying cows & driving pigs.
Congos don't eat snails. This is a fact that has been documented time and time again by icthyologists studying the species. It's what sets them apart from all other species of freshwater puffers

If you have congos that are eating snails I suggest you contact the scientific community, they would love to hear about these fish that are behaving in a a way that is entirely alien to their species.

Alternatively, I suspect that these fish that you know of are actually pig-nose puffers which although they come from Asia instead of Africa look very very similar to the Congo puffer and absolutely love snails.
