congo confusion

hello i was jsut wondering if anyone has some pictures of yellow-tail congo tetras at a stage where they havent developed their full colours (female)

i was just wondering this because a month ago i had purchased 4 congo tetras (1male, 3 females) from my LFS. when i got then into the 75g, i was excited and daydreamed how good their colours are going to come.

but one day i realised somethign totally unexpected, i noticed that the male congo tetra is a yellow-tail congo tetra !!!! i was surprised by this and started doubting the looks of how my tank would look, i dont want the yellow /blue colours, I WANT THE ORANGE SILVER look ^^

so now...im very unsure of wot the females are. "ARE THEY TRUE CONGOS or YELLOW-TAIL??"

can i plz have some pics if anyone can supply, thank you

I'm not sure what you mean by 'true'? There are a number of varieties of Congo that are all true...

well im talkign about true as in "silver scales with orange lining with abit of silver burnt fins that stand out"...

wot other variations of congo tetra are there? i only knew about 2 types:

the congo in the pic
yellowtail

How do you tell the males from the females when they are young? I have 9 congos ranging in size from 1.5 to 2 inches. One of them is starting to develop the beautiful flowing fins and has the orange like the picture you show above.

Most of the others are still very silvery looking.

Can you post a picture of your yellow tail?

males are longer finned & more colorful....

im gonna b buying 4 more congos later this afternoon

and as for my yellowtail congo, ill try get a photo of it this weekend as my maet will b bringing his digital camera ^^

I just took a few shots...they are ok, but not great. They move so fast! Anyway, what is the easiest way to upload the pics in my message? I did it once, but it took me forever. Must be a simpler way??

looking nice there.....i aint sure about uploading images, havent done much of the images, i got my pic from the net from an example....

just try to get a free fileserver on the net or somthing...(relating sorta to webdesign)
