I read somewhere that 100% silicone GE silicone I was the right stuff for repairing a seam.

I went out, bought some. Was a little hesitant as I saw "Mildew Resistant" on it. I figured that was no good. I read up and am getting mixed inputs. I think that there must be some chemicals in the silicone, but will they be able to leak those chems into my tank.

The only GE clear silicone I that was there has this "Mildew Resistant" quality listed on the side. There were other GE silicone I's that did not have it but those were all colored.

any input

Here, unless a sealant is specifically aquarium rated, you can be fairly sure it has fungicides in it. Can't comment about the US.

Do a forum search for GE's Silicone I, I read about this in a thread somewhere. GE's Silicone I is safe to use in aquariums, but not GE's Silicone II. The Silicone II has a warning on the back not for use in aquariums, but since I doesn't specify, it should be OK.

Here, I just did a forum search on GE Silicone I, and it came up with 7 results, the first being this thread.

Conclusion: Silicone I is the way to go!

GE Silicone I

If it says mildew or fungis resistant you can bet that it has addatives in it that will leech into your tank. I would suggest reading this thread as well.

Pay particular attention to what Mcdaphnia says on page one.

I know it might not be cost-effective (but if you're really worried it might be worth it), but lfs and lps sell aquarium sealants. I used it to attach sand to different caves I was building.

Yep.

I use GE Silicone I window and door.

Just look for whichever silicone I you can get that is clear, and does not have any anti-fungus/anti-mildew agents in it (its usually cheaper this way too). If it doesnt say anything about mold or mildew on it, it should be safe.

Silicone II is safe to use as well. But it can leach harmfull chemicals if not fully cured before water contacts it. Silicone I only gives off acetic acid (vinegar) as a byproduct of curing. I would just stick to silicone I if you can ;)
