right cut to the chase 1 female coral red platy and a female silver molly are currently sitting on the sandy substrate and they hide alot.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5-10

Ph is at 8.0

Recently installed external fluval filter with estiblished media, they eat and that. But don't like swimming around they sit on bottom all day???

Why?

other fish apart from them 2.

2 guppies
1 swordy male
4 corydoras

Have they darkened in colour, or gone pale.

no they are the same colour, i moved my molly a couple of days ago from another tank as im trying to breed from her... i put togther a black male and a silver female....... its only last night and today shes been acting up. The red coral platy on the other hand has been off colour for a while.

The molly i found had jumped in to my breeder box that was floating in my aquarium. Why she done it i don't know? I dunno if that is relevant but i thought i would add it anyway.

 i'm baffled

You did add them at the correct temp, and the ph was the same as the tank they came out of, apart from that can't think what wrong with them maybe a bacteria infection if they have no physical symtoms, are they old fish or youngsters.

Young fish, they seem to hang around the heater end??? are they cold do u think??? tank temp is at 25 - 26'C should it be higher?

I hate it when things like this happen!!!

Water chemistry was the same as other tank i tested both tanks before i moved fish.

Do you vacum your gravel regularly.

don't have gravel i have sand, i gravel vac once a week. I did a water change on Sunday with no problems and added water conditioner as normal.

Some times if you don't maintain the tank they can get bacteria infections from the substrate, if you can issolate the two fish you could try anti internal bacteria med and some salt, are they resting alot at the bottom of the tank.

would this cause them to have clamped fin as well. Sometimes my fish dart across tank as if something is annoying them? It looks like my molly has burnt her nose from being too close to heater??? as she has a sml patch of skin that has come off!!!!!!

my poor fishies.

i can only medicate in this tank alone as i have no room to set up another tank.

Clamped fins are a sign of stress, so it can't be water quality as that's fine, so it must be illness, she could of burnt her nose on the filter yes, it's up to you if you medicate the tank, good luck.

Forgot they are not flicking and rubbing against objects are they with them darting about.

I haven't witnessed anything like that at the moment.... Think i will treat for skin paracites and see what happens... keep ya posted.

Thx for help wilder :)

I wouldn't advise medicating unless you are sure it's skin parasites, there is no fish in there that making them feel threatened.

Well what else can i do?? theres nothing wrong with the water as i have checked... never known fish to sit on the bottom without a good reason? It's ok i'm not having a good at you or anything so i hope you didn't take the above statement to heart.

the molly keeps dragging her butt around on the sand???

Checked on them both this morning & they are the same, they both look miserable... i might just do water changes over a couple of days and hope for the best...

Only thing i have changed recently is i've added an external filter. Do you think a Ph of 8.0 is very high???

My fish survive a PH of 8 most of the time. I've put bogwood in over the last few months and its gone down a tad.

Its a shame you have cories in there or you could have tried a little salt. Maybe you could do a salt bath :dunno: it may perk them up a little

I really have no idea what could be wrong with them but they do sound stressed poor things :/
