Hi all

I'm looking to buy a metal hood for my fish tank.

Will i need a condensation lid to go with it?
The light unit will be sealed and all electrical items will be in a compartment in the back of the hood.

I'm a bit confused can anyone help?

This is down to your preference, I have 2 tanks one with and one without. The tank without a condensation lid keeps splashing when I open up the lid but that is because I have an air stone. If you don't have a air stone I can't see a problem going without a condensation lid. :S

A condensation tray can reduce evaporation losses, and will be the first line of defense for jumping fish. That said, they get dirty quickly and reduce the lightings effectiveness which can be important in a planted tank.

Most metal hoods are made of aluminium so won't rust if that was your fear. They do tend to corrode, a white material develops on wet areas. This you should clean off.

I have wooden hoods and do not routinely use condensation tray.
