Hi,

Tank has been set up for a long time. Water changed regularly. No new additions to tank (within last 6 months) & not overstocked (200L tank with some tetras, 3 gouramis, 3 bristlenose, and corydoras). Last addition was a male starlight bristlenose. Tank is planted.

Female bristlenose has clear sacs over body. Picture attached. She has grown fatter than she was 2 - 3 weeks ago.

Obviously hoping that this is spawning behaviour, as the fish is 6 years old and am rather attached, but doesn't look like anything on the internet.

Anyone's help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi BFG, if you post the picture it will help people diagnose the issue you mention. :)

Hope this works this time!

Thanks for your initial replies. Another picture:

I've spent quite a while searching the internet without success. Found a few references to similar issue, but fish seem to die before / during treatment.

She's lethargic, and just sat on/near the log, and not bothered about me opening the tank lid (she normally makes a run for it). All other fish are ok.

The picture doesn't do it justice, but her other side (not in the photos) looks significantly worse and red. I've brought fish 'back from the brink' before with meds, but nothing as bad as this.

I wouldn't do this lightly, but hating seeing her in discomfort & therefore considering euthanasia.

If anyone does have any thoughts I'd appreciate it.

Fish has passed away. Thanks to anyone who was looking for reasons for this. Thread closed

Aww mate, really sorry to hear this. :( it looked terrible what ever it was. Sorry I was not of any use to you.

Sorry you lost her,

It did look nasty and almost like some sort of burn like got wedged behind a heater or some thing. What ever it is i hope all your other fish stay fine.
