Complete Wipe Out On My Tank :(

Got woken up at half 1 looked in my tank to see every fish dead part from my hermit crab and yellow watchman goby!!!!! i dont think enuff of the faces will show how sad and angray i am !!!!!!

The only coruse i can see it my redox is minus 117mv temp is at 28c this isnt too hot that the fish could die? my heater isnt even turn on , what is the coruse pf it all i duno till lfs opens!!!

good news??? im not giving up fish keeping its my life , bad news all them dead fish and when can i adford to redue it !!


corals are looking ok ish not open but there is no lights , wont chance it and going take them into my lfs asap

That temperate shouldn't cause death, so i'd cross it off the list.

If you still have the dead fish, try to inspect them and see if you see anything odd on them, other than that check your water stats!

Hope it gets figured out, its a damn shame.

im well sorry to hear that mate, i bet you are absolutely gutted. have all the fish been healthy and feeding recently? its very strange how its all happened overnight. you should check your water stats as may be an indicator as to what may have caused the deaths.

hope you manage to get to the bottom of the cause...

Hi i thort it wouldnt be the heat! i froze all the fish so will take them to my lfs im going be waiting at the door when then open ! will let you all know

Gutted isnt the word mate! i dont think there is a word to how i feel!!!!!!!! yes they was allll feeding! , i did add a tmc poshphate remover that day i duno but i hope i get to the bottom as welll!

Sorry to hear about your loss mate.
I had read somewhere that when magnesium, calcium and kh are not maintained properly it can cause a wipe out as it causes the ph to drop very dramatically in the space of 20 mins or so then go back up again so by the time you test your water, everything seems ok.
I can't remember where i read this article but it might be worth a look on the net. To me, it did seem the make sence.

Little update josh sounds kinda right but my lfs think i had a algle bloom witch staves the oxygen for 20mins or so witch then cause my fish to die witch is why my ozone levels went in to minus albecause i had no uv running! ben did you lose all yours in your new tank?? omg sorry if you did

Im not letting it get to me too much tho im still pretty gutted! im hoping to get a new tank Aquamedic 'Percula 90' and hoping to get one of the guys from my lfs to help set it up so i know its done right!

im wanting to get a tank with the built in refugium

My guesses would be either O2 deprivation, or Ozone poisoning. Although if the corals come out and look OK, I'd say your problem was O2 deprivation. Ozone poisoning would probably kill the corals before the fish...

SkiFletch - could you please explain how O2 deprivation or Ozone poisoning occurs and wipes out a tank. This post is sad and scary. Are there any signs to look out for? I'm assuming this crash built up slowly without Gary realising. What's to stop it happening to anyone of us? Why do you think it may have happened?
