Ok, so my roommate and i just started our first cichlid tank. At the moment we have two african cichlids and a pleco in a 29 gallon tank. We would like to add some more fish but arent sure which fish are compatable with cichlids.

What fish could we add to have a little more diversity?

Really depends on the type of cichlids you have. What species are they? Pleco will get way too big for the tank eventually...but I suspect you already knew that. :p Some cichlids will get far too big too.
Hugs,
P.

What kinds of African cichlids? Post some pics if you need them identified.

I'd suggest returning the pleco and replacing it with something that won't grow as large (they get to 18") such as a bristlenose pleco (they get to 5").

29 gallons isn't normaly reccomended for an African tank but we'll see once you've replied what will work with the fish you have. Note that Africans tend to be highly aggressive so there won't be non-cichlid fish that go with them.

Last thing - is the tank cycled? How long has it been set up for with fish in it?

edit: Miss Dib Dabs beat me :p
