Before you think I'm asking for suggestions, I'm not.

I currently have 1GB of RAM, and am looking to sell it after Christmas, and I realise 1GB ram isn't great for using, so I am looking to buy 2GB of RAM of Crucial.

My question is, what type of ram should I get? DDR/DDR2? 200 pin?

I have looked on the internet, to no avail..

All help appreciated!

Thanks in advance, D.

Assuming it is newer than 3 years old, it will almost deffinately take 200 pin SODIUM DDR2 ram modules ;)

Such as THIS ONE

All the best

it will take up to 3GB of DDR2 memory. take care though, you will need LAPTOP DDR2. you will also have to fit then two at a time, or you loose the "dual" in dual core. which is odd as it only comes with one dimm when bought, effectively strangling then machine before its switched on!

Go to crucial's web site and use the memory selector tell you everything you need to know buying direct works out cheaper too memory is cheap as chips at the mo 1gb is around £15

from hp site: Supports up to 3 GB DDR2 memory

http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.aspx?cpe=CHAWKuk

Step 1 - Compaq
Step 2 - Presrio Notebooks
Step 3 - Model (we need the full model number)

By the looks of it theres 1gb on board and 2 slots what take a 1gb each (£9.19 for 1 gb)

Can you post the full model number

as this site lists all C700 models as only having two memory slots, its hard to believe the rest of the service will be any better. I've found it best to buy things from firms that, actually, know what they are talking about. if they don't know how many slots any pc has, can you really trust the memory they sell?

incidentally, you do need to add matched pairs, even on a Compac. if you want to used dual channel memory. if your comp does not support if, you are not getting the power the dual core chip can give. so maybe a computer upgrade as opposed to a memory one is in order. leave it the the Badge branded comps to put a descent processor in an comp, then make it impossible to use, properly! but some c700's may have dual channel, so check. and if it has no dual channel, don't bother putting too much in, you simply wont get any advantage.

lol theres more than one c700 laptop ie c700 T , c700 ET , etc

Crucial is owned by micron one of the world leaders in memory production

C700 has 2 slots the older 700 series has one and the 700 series models are 4-5 years old now

oh btw i have been in the I.T. game 10+ years, comptia A+, N+ And C&G level 3 in electronics

C700 range takes a 200 pin DDR-2 SO Dimm speed is model depenent tho due to the processor, clock/bus speed Varations And a max Of 1gb per slot

yep, my bad! miss read the info. and the site got both my pc's memory right!
rules on dual channels are still good through. so there is little point in going to 3gb, interestingly the comp has a max of 3gb, but compac state it will only support 2gb. unless that has something to do with dual channel.

i've been messing with computers since 1982 (cpc464) but i didn't get to the true PC till 1990. this long association has made me sceptical, sometimes overly so, of both the ability's of the MS based pc and vendors that supply us.

2 gb upgradable via the 2 slots with 1 gb on board with upto 512mb shared for graphics spent the best part of 3 years repairing just laptops/notebooks advent have a nice high fail rate

same here been playing around scince the early 90's when i was still at school ibm xt's, acorn electrons, bbc's and masters, spectrums Z81 think i still have a specy xl with twin micro drives up in the loft commodor 16, c-64, vic 20 amiga 500, 600x and 1200 with a silca systems 040 overdrive kit and a whopping 10gb hdd, CD 32

Kids these days dont know what thay missed. lol

Au contraire! We have the full use of the internet, and we all know what the internet is for. ( other that fish )

And thanks guys! I have had a look at it and drew the conclusion that this memory is sufficient. Am I right in thinking that?

Thanks for all of the help so far! You lost me about a third of the way down when you started getting really technical..
