Companions for my betta in a 10 gallon tank.

Right now my maroon boy is all alone in a cycled 10 gallon tank. I was thinking about adding some other fishes but I'm not sure which. I definately would love some panda cories...any other suggestions?

hmm, well it's hard to say for betta sin communites....do you know if he's more towards the aggressive side or hte passive side? since each betta is so differnet, it's hard to say wehther or not he'll attack the other fishies.

I heard that platties are good with the bettas, avoid gourmais, guppies, and other fin nippers like tetras and neons, who will nip at the betat's fins and run away very quickly.

ADFs, snails, adn bottom feedres are always good, they stay out of the bettas way, so cories and otos woudl be a neat addition. good luck with the community tank

I'm reluctant to suggest anything but bottom dwellers.

You could add a few kuhli loaches.

some ottos maybe.. a pleco... not sure about any other types of fish..

maybe some female guppies... but not colorfull ones.. dont know how exciting that would be lol..

i wouldn' sugguest putting a common pleco in a 10G as they can grow to be VERY big.

would you consider setting up a female betta community tank? Sure the feamles aren't as pretty as the males, but they have their own cuteness and personality

well yea.. eventually the pleco would grow out of it.. but it takes a long time..

unfortunately ive never had one outgrow a 10g tank... the tank is never really messy and i never used to feed them lol

My female tank is very colorful, many of them don't show their colors until they are out of the cups. I have five girls, one is all red, a cambo, a blue, and a red with blue fins. They are in a ten gllon with 3 cories and it works great. The tank is very active.

I would suggest cories with a male too, they seem to do very well

Panda Corys are lovely... good choice.

You could put a Bristlenose Pleco in there as well.

I think Fred is on the passive side. He doesn't seem to get too excited about anything...but he's never lived with others before either. *shrug*
I want to only get things that are compible with my community tank just in case it doesn't work out. The big tank has 6 apple snails, so unfortunately loaches are out of the question.
Someone told me I could put two girls in with him, but I'm extremely reluctant to try that. I was told that if he has two girls to hassle then he'll get tired before he feels the need to kill. But I've also heard that multiple girls can gang up and out the guy.

Maybe I'll stick with three or four pandas and call it a community.

no no no! no girls!!

espiecally not in a 10G tank!! the male will harass and kill them if theyr'e not ready for breeding passiave as he may be, he's still a betta!

hmm 6 snails... that's a lot of snails! It's pretty limiting with what you can do with a male betta community tank I've personally heard ppl say that platties and stuff work, but never tried it myself

Female bettas are also great i can practically turn my female betta community tank into a soap opera story

I raise cory cats and like to keep a betta in their tanks. The bettas seem to amuse themselves by watching the corys swimming around on the bottom and I've even had a betta that liked to go into their cave with them.

I've also kept a betta in a community tank with platties and glowlight tetras with no problems.

but that seems like an ok group of fish, if you do one male and 3 females of each. why dont you go ask in the livebearer section.
