I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about compact fluorescent lights? Spectrum info would be good? Are they comparable to standard fluorescent lights? Are they any good for an aquarium?

Thanks!
Pat

Im not sure. They screw into a regular incandescent socket. They were around the house and noone used em so i thought id give em a try. It says as much light as a 60W incandescent, but its fluorescent. They are about the same size as a 60W bulb but a bent tube kinda deal the name is "Sylvania Soft White mini 60 Compact Fluorescent"

The info on the pack says 800 lumens at 13 Watts

I think they are like an energy saving light bulb type thingy. have never used them so couldn'tsay.

Yeah they definately do save energy, but I was wondering if because they are fluorescent they might have the right spectrum? I don't know a lot about lights so I'm just guessing..
Thanks

If anyone knows please tell me!!!

They are a soft white, hence way too cool to run over an aquarium. Cool as in the intensity in k's is way too low.

Key lighting words to avoid,,,soft white, and cool.

i have a 55 gallon with a 48" hood that contains 2x55w 24" compacts that are 9400k. super daylight is 10k. Mercedes Benz headlights are about 6500k. Regular halogens are about 3500k (more yellow than white).
