Hello...

I have a common pleco which I now think needs rehoming now if not very soon :)(). My question was, if anyone knew of a good ratio of pleco size to tank size or possibly what % of it's length should a common plec. have in a tank?
Or in more simple terms, how many times longer and higher should the tank be than the fish for it to be comfortable and happy. Which is after all what I want for my fish....

Just wondering so I can find Vladimir (yes, I name all my fish odd names...) a good home instead of keeping him in my current tank.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, the usual ratio is tank length 4 x the length of the Pleco (not counting tail), width 2 x length of Pleco and height 2 x length of Pleco. HTH. I like the name! I am not very inventive with names, my Common is called Buster (tankbuster). :)

Looks like Vladimir will be living with me for a bit longer.

Buster is a good name for a fish too!

For a common plec to grow properly without any problems a recommended 4x2x2 foot tank minimum but 5x2x2 is better and obviously anythink larger is a bonus :)

Yes, I agree. Those measurements are the minimum. On another forum I look at someone has just put their Common in a 100 gallon tank, that would be very nice. :)
