I've had a common pleco and a fancy high fin pleco in separate tanks for many months. but once I went to a 90G tank I added them both in. They seem to keep away from eachother.. crossing paths and kinda going at eachother but only for a sec and one will take off.... but after reading online at other sites I've heard they will not get along as they grow.. they are both about 5 Inch .. maybe a bit more. Lots of plants for them to hide in. I have 5 BP, 6 mollies, 4 Swordtails and 4 platy's in the tank with them... not planning on getting any more fish

And ... is a 90G big enough for them when they get full grown..

what do you mean by "fancy high fin pleco"? do you mean a sailfin/gibbi ?

yes. lol. Was not sure the name untill i came to this site.

I just put lettuce in the tank today too. Trying new things for them.

edit... I know a lot about the other Breed's of fish I have but as for the pleco.. I kinda just started to read up on them more. I want them to be as comfortable as my other fish and compatible as well.

plecos are pretty easy to take care of...they are also the favorite fish of many people on this site including myself. agression will show over territory but 90gals IMO is enough. count on your common and sailfins to eat plenty of algae but thats not all they need...they need fresh veggies and algae tabs (just throw some tabs in after youve fed the rest and after the lights go off). its good to drop them near where the pleco hides...but all my common plecs were never shy. good luck

Thank you :)
I do use those disk but wanted to start giving them some of the things i read about online... they didn't touch the lettuce. lol.
I'm glad to know they will have enough room fullgrown in the tank... I did think they get large... but after reading more about them and finding out HOW large... I kinda got worried. lol.

I have to disagree about 90G being big enough for a Common and a Gibbiceps. With one having the potential to reach 20" and the other 24", ideally you would need a minimum 6'x2'x2' for when they are fully grown.
They will be ok for the time being but eventually you may have to seperate them or upgrade.

if they are about 5 inch each... how long do i have till i have to move one to a larger tank?.....

I wont be buying a larger tank till I move.. I don't have plans to move for at least a year. I just bought this tank two weeks ago and upgraded from a 20G and 29G into the 90G... I wanted to go with 125G but the only wall avail for a tank to go on.......there is not enough room in my apartment for the 125G which was very dissapointing.

Most grow about an inch a month until they hit 12", then the growth rate slows down.
You should be fine until you move but keep an eye for territory disputes.

I have another question.... I put a 1/4 cucumber in the tank over night and they didn't really seem to be eating it. I turn the lights off every night. I thought it would be almost gone... They seem to only really go after shrimp pellets. they dont really tough the veggie disk either.

Is that ok that they don't eat much veggie's?

I thought cucumber would be like a treat for them.... lol...

ya i bought a clip for it.

try not to feed them for a couple days and then add corgette they wil be hungry so they should start eating it,if that doesnt work you could always rub some garlic on it this should encourage them to take a little more notice. Give it time they will probably start eating it anyways. they will be ok eating shrimp pelletsbut qi think over time it may be to much protein :(

ok cool. I kinda thought they would just go nuts for something like cucumber lol. so i was worried they didn't.

I had to google corgette ....... I live in canada.... I never knew zucchinis were called corgette. lol. Learn something new every day. :)
