At the beginning of the year I bought 2 common plecs. Since then I've been feeding them like nuts, but they won't grow past 4~5". They have coloration that looks like it came from a dinosaur. And it changes color depending on lighting. This is almost exactly what it looks like. I have 2 in a 55G and they don't mind each other in the least. They've been this long for several months now while my oscars get huge. What could they be?

they are commons.

it may be stunting - 55gal would be ok for 1 (untill it was 14"+) but 2 might be holding them back... either that or they are just taking it slowly.

I was thinking more along the lines of 8". When they get that size it would be time to get rid of one. They haven't grown in 6 months. I dunno what they can be but it isn't that they're not growing cuz of too little food. They eat as much as the oscar.

it depends on tank setup and footprint.

but at least your prepared for the fact that they are going to get big...
