Common Plec In A 55G?

Hi, i was wondering if a common pleco (not sure exact type) will be ok in my 55g. a friend of mine has one in a 20g that i'd like to take off her hands, as he's gotten way too big for that tank (about 6-7 inches). my sister is planning on getting a 120g in the future, so i was planning on giving him to her in the future. would this be ok?

On the pretense that he will be going to a larger tank after yours once he out grows sounds very reasonable, your tank is far more suited than your friends 20g so as long as your prepared to rid once he gets to big and definitely have a large enough tank for him/her to live the rest of his life out, then i would say go for it
