i have a really small common plec in a 10 gal right...in 2 weeks ill be getting a 50-60 gal aquarium to start a new community...i will be moving him in there once he gets too big, but i was hopeing to have live plants in the large aquarium. I hear they eat every plant they dont, are there any plants that they will leave alone and not destroy?

He won't eat the plants, but when he gets bigger he may barge them about and uproot them. If you haven't bought his new tank yet, can I make the suggestion of a bigger than 50-60g one? He's going to get huge. :)

Kathys right - he wont eat them but will easily be able to wreck a planted tank...

We has vallis and java fern in our 100gal with our 'common' (see sig)

We've protected the roots of the vallis with bogwood and its worked well.

Ours is not about 12" and is a gentle giant until he swished his tail at which point - take cover as a whole load of sand is coming your way...

One thing that quite a lot of plecs do is dig... normally under things to hide. ours has loads of places to hide without digging so he dosnt 'normally' do it. if he was to have a go at getting under the wood in front of the vallis it would be a mess.
